Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has spelled out the challenges of getting about in rural West Wales.

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has spelled out the challenges of getting about in rural West Wales.

Speaking at the AGM of the Preseli Rural Transport Association, he outlined the difficulties of travelling around the area by bus and train. Mr Davies said he was lobbying the Welsh Assembly Government to implement the recommendations of the Jacobs Report which included adding another five rail services a day to Fishguard.

"Arriva Trains Wales and others have seen an increase in passengers of 13 per cent per year over the past five years, where services have been reintroduced," he told the AGM at Café Beca.

He also spoke about the ongoing Welsh Conservative campaign to dual the A40.

"I have always maintained that this is a vitally important project that would result in a significant improvement to the County' transport infrastructure," he said.

"It would certainly improve travel times for those using the road and would improve access to the port at Fishguard, aiding businesses that travel through the county. "We must consider the economical, social and environmental consequences when developing our infrastructure."

Mr Davies said he will carry on lobbying in Cardiff to ensure West Wales is not left behind when it comes to investment in transport infrastructure. "I will certainly continue to press the Welsh Assembly Government to commit more resources to developing a truly efficient transport infrastructure for Pembrokeshire and West Wales as a whole," he added.
