Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies believes that plans for a new £20m integrated care centre in Cardigan is a step in the right direction. The new centre will provide a number of services including a GP practice and out-of-hours service, specialist and nurse-led clinics and even an outpatient suite with consulting rooms and clinical treatment facilities for pre-assessment.
Mr Davies said, “I hope that the approval of these plans from the Welsh Government will result in more services being provided closer to home. My constituents in North Pembrokeshire have waited too long for this news and so it’s important that the Welsh Government and the local health board now get on with the job.
He added, “The new facility will replace the existing Cardigan Memorial Hospital, and this facility should provide sufficient bed capacity to serve the local area. I look forward to seeing Hywel Dda University Health Board develop a full business case for the integrated care centre that meets the needs of local communities.”
