While £15 million was wasted by the Welsh Assembly Government planning a "road to nowhere" that WON'T be built in South Wales, the A40 through Pembrokeshire is not fit for purpose.
That's the view of Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies who is livid that the Labour‐ Plaid Cymru administration has wasted so much money on a road project that will now never see the light of day.
The Welsh Conservatives have discovered that £15.57 million has already been spent on the design development of a toll road to ease congestion on the M4 near Newport. But the Welsh Assembly Government has now decided to scrap the scheme because of spiralling costs. Mr Davies" said:
"The decision not to proceed represents a major U‐turn by the Labour/Plaid Assembly Government. I am extremely angry that millions of pounds have been lost and taxpayers will have absolutely nothing to show for it."
Mr Davies has consistently lobbied for the A40 to be dualled however the new Robeston Wathen by‐pass will be a dangerous two‐plus‐one carriageway road.
"This £15 million could have easily been spent on upgrading the Robeston Wathen by‐pass into a dual carriageway instead of a second rate alternative," added Mr Davies.
"Once again we see this Assembly Coalition Government wasting millions of taxpayers money and as a result, the people of Pembrokeshire being short‐changed."
