Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies is celebrating after winning a U‐turn from the Welsh Assembly Government on the siting of a new village sign.

Wolf's Castle Community Council asked Mr Davies for help in getting a "Winner of Wales in Bloom" sign put up in their village.
After an initial refusal, the Assembly's Trunk Roads Agency then changed its mind following lobbying from Mr Davies.

"We were initially told that it was not "considered appropriate to erect the sign as it was unnecessary and because the Welsh Assembly Government did not wish to increase sign clutter," said Mr Davies.

"I agree that roadside clutter needs to be kept to a minimum but the community was only asking for a small sign to be put up underneath their existing "Welcome to Wolf's Castle" sign, said Mr Davies.

"I wrote to the Trunk Roads Agency (TRA) asking why the Welsh Assembly Government considered the sign inappropriate and what clutter already existed in Wolf's Castle.

"I said that Wolf's Castle residents were rightly proud of their achievement in winning the Wales in Bloom title and that displaying a sign to echo this would be an incentive to encourage this to continue.
"Lo and behold the TRA then wrote to say the Welsh Assembly Government had reviewed the situation and decided to allow the sign to be put up after all.

"I am glad that common sense has prevailed and that the community will now get the chance to advertise its achievement."

Clerk to the Community Council Revd Geoffrey Eynon said: "We have won Wales in Bloom five times now and we wanted to recognise that fact. We are also very proud to be finalists in Britain in Bloom next year."
