This week, local Assembly Member Paul Davies visited Nevern Castle to witness the progress of the third season excavation, which is running until July 16th. The excavation work has revealed a large amount of twelfth century building structures and buildings.
The project is run by Nevern Community Council, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Durham University, funded through Cadw, the Welsh Assembly and the Park Authority. Half-hour guided tours are now available and take place at 2.45pm each day, except for Thursdays or in the event of very poor weather.
Paul Davies said, "I am very thankful that I have had the opportunity to visit the Nevern Castle site and see some of the excavation work. Nevern Castle is one of the ten sites of iconic significance to Welsh culture, heritage and nationhood and I am sure that the guided tours will be a huge success.
"It is important that we continue to highlight and celebrate our history and heritage in Pembrokeshire."
