Assembly Member Paul Davies recently visited the new Age Concern Pembrokeshire 'A Work of Art' Gallery and Centre

Local Assembly Member Paul Davies recently visited the new Age Concern Pembrokeshire 'A Work of Art' Gallery and Centre situated at 25 Bridge Street, Haverfordwest. The charity shop with a difference exhibits and sells works of art by older Pembrokeshire artists. In addition visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee in a comfortable and informal setting.

Commenting on his visit, Mr Davies said "I was very impressed to see the new art gallery and centre. It is a fantastic new venture in a great location in the centre of Haverfordwest. The art on display when I visited was very impressive, and it is great that local artists have the opportunity to sell their work in a very professional looking venue, whilst at the same time financially helping the vital work of local independent charity Age Concern Pembrokeshire."

He added "The volunteers who help keep the centre open gave me and other members of the public a very friendly welcome. I am sure that the gallery will be very successful and is an excellent and unique initiative showing how a little imagination can bring in much needed funds for a local charity in a new and innovative way."

Jane Slade, Chief Officer of Age Concern Pembrokeshire, commented "We have considered opening a charity shop for some time as we wanted to establish a town centre presence and we are delighted with the interest and support we have received for our new venture. The idea of an art gallery comes from our annual art and craft exhibition that was held in Haverfordwest Library for over 20 years but now provides an opportunity to generate much needed income to enable us to continue to support older people in Pembrokeshire".

The Gallery and Centre can only open with the help of volunteers and is currently open between 10am and 4pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, it is hoped that the opening days will be increased if sufficient volunteers come forward. Anyone that wishes to consider volunteering for just a few hours a week should contact Age Concern Pembrokeshire on 01437 769972.
