Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies is helping to highlight the work done by Mid and West Wales fire brigade in preventing problems caused by flooding.
Mr Davies joined representatives from the three Welsh Fire and Rescue Services at an awareness-raising event held in the Welsh Assembly's Senedd building in Cardiff Bay.
During the evening the Brigades revealed the latest technology and training that they use to tackle the problem.
Richard Smith, Chief Fire Officer at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service explained: "Over the last four years, we have carried out hundreds of rescues of people trapped as a result of flooding.
"Wales is well prepared in this field. We have the latest equipment available and our staff have received the best training, possessing a great deal of experience, something which has been put to good use in the recent flooding incidents and also in Gloucestershire and Yorkshire last year when they were deployed to help people who were affected by serious flooding in those areas."
Mr Davies added: "Our weather patterns seem to be getting more and more extreme and it was very reassuring to see the equipment and excellent training that our firefighters are being given to deal with it."
