Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has gone "inside" thanks to Dyfed-Powys police force.
He's not spent a spell in prison but rather got an insider's view of life in today's police force.
He's taking part in the Assembly Police Scheme which aims to enable politicians see policing from behind-the-scenes.
"I spent a day at police headquarters in Llangunnor learning about the different tasks of the police force," said Mr Davies.
"I met the heads of different departments from within the force to learn about their areas of expertise and their concerns.
"As a former bank manager I've expressed an interest in learning more about financial crime and I'm also keen to learn more about critical incident training.
"The scheme will give us a real taste of what policing is like and tell us how legislation impacts upon police activities.
"Although policing is not a devolved issue many things that we do at the Assembly directly impact upon the police so it's vital that we have a good understanding of everything that they do."
