Local Assembly Member Paul Davies is calling for the Welsh Government to provide the farming industry with a much-needed update on their Bovine TB eradication policy. At present, nearly 700 cattle a month continue to be lost from the Welsh cattle herd as a result of Bovine TB.
Commenting on this, Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies said, "It is disappointing to think that it is now the end of October and we have still not heard from the Welsh Government on this issue. In June, the Environment and Sustainability Minister, John Griffiths AM, informed us that the group set up to peer review the evidence would be established as quickly as possible. To date, we have still not heard any confirmation of the timetable for completion of the review."
"It is essential that the Welsh Government provides leadership on this issue and tackles Bovine TB as a matter of urgency. The Welsh Government should be doing everything that they can to support the agricultural industry here in Wales and to rid our countryside of this appalling disease. I will continue to press the Welsh Government on this issue and I hope that a statement on this is delivered as soon as possible."
